The Very Hungry Caterpillar, named after the children’s book by Eric Carle, was commissioned by the Da Camera Young Artists of Houston. Da Camera commissioned the piece as part of their “Music Encounters” program in Houston elementary schools. The piece is part of a lesson on storytelling, the life cycle of the butterfly, and communication. In the lesson, Da Camera Artists performed the piece, and then the students designed their own version of the caterpillar lifecycle by acting out each stage of the cycle with sounds and motion.
