KRABBELAR (2015) - for trombone choir
Premiere: University of Miami Trombone Choir Concert, Miami, FL, April 2015
Duration: ca. 5 min
A Krabbelaar, or “scribbler” is a type of 16th-century Dutch dredging boat that used several long, spiky wooden rods to pull up soil and sediment deep in the water as the boat traveled along. This work for trombone choir conveys this dredging process and the sediment that clouds and floats off in the water, as represented by aleatoric fragments spiraling out of energetic, rhythmic tutti passages.
